OTRS AG Supports the Women’s Shelter in Oberursel With Donations, Clothing and Toys

The current situation leads to increasing tensions in households,
that’s why the OTRS AG supports the women's shelter in Oberursel with donations.

The new regulations caused by Corona are a challenge for all of us. The limited childcare facilities in social institutions, kindergartens and schools; the fear of losing one’s job and limited personal freedom are leading to increasing tensions in households. Many families live cramped together in the smallest of spaces – without the possibility of avoiding each other. This has led to an increase in domestic violence. The women’s shelter in Oberursel also recorded a high increase in women seeking protection immediately after the “lockdown”.

Achieving Good Things Together

For the OTRS Group staff, it was important to brighten up the lives of the vulnerable women and their children at least a little in these difficult times. Over a period of several weeks, all departments collected useful items. Together, they were able to fill ten boxes, including clothing for babies, toddlers and women; drugstore and cosmetic items; toys and household goods (kettles, toasters, curtains and bowls). The donations were rounded off with a cash donation of € 1,000 from OTRS AG.

The women’s shelter’s employees can make particularly good use of the toys to redesign the children’s area.

Donation Handover at OTRS AG

On October 15, 2020, two representatives of the women’s shelter came to OTRS AG to gratefully receive the donations. An exciting dialogue emerged, and we were very happy to learn even more about the women’s shelter and the work there firsthand. Since 1985, women and their children who are affected by physical or psychological violence in their immediate vicinity have found refuge and support in the women’s shelter in Oberursel. The house has eleven rooms with a total of 21 places for women and children. The facility is always well utilized and registered over 6300 overnight stays in 2019. The women in need of protection come from all classes and age groups.

“It is impressive to see the dedication and versatility with which the women’s shelter works to put the difficult lives of vulnerable women on a new, more solid foundation,” says Sabine Riedel, member of the board at OTRS AG. “Therefore, we do not only want to help with donations in kind and cash donations, but also look for further possibilities, in order to be able to support the shelter effectively.”
